Fashion is a great confidence booster and we love it!
But let’s not let our love of fashion blind us to the industry’s flaws; and the fashion industry has a really ugly one: Many of the brands you wear are produced under ethically questionable conditions requiring NGOs like CARE Bangladesh to step in to bring education and fair labor standards to garment factories.
WHY WE SHOULD CARE: While women in developed countries, like the US are gaining support for equal pay and other women’s rights, the women making over 75% of the clothes we wear are treated horribly. They are exposed to toxic chemicals and are paid about $2 USD per day!!! Many are verbally abused and forced to work overtime. Disasters like the Rana Plaza collapse, which killed 1,100 people in Dhaka in 2013, will only end when we vote with our dollars.
