The people we here at Vurb find inspiring are people who we admire how they live. We admire women who are outspoken, funny, healthy or philanthropic. Today, I want to dispel the myth (held in some circles) that models aren’t role models. We think Noella, Gisele, Cara, Liya, and Miranda fit the mold very well. They are among the most inspiring women walking the catwalk today. These ladies also happen to have a personal style we like and they make their home-life a priority.
Gisele is not only a mother, philanthropist, and sometime actress, through her humanitarian accomplishments, she has also fostered a reputation for being a badass businesswoman. She’s a model yogi and has become an outspoken advocate (some say zealot) for breastfeeding.
Noella Coursaris Musunka
Model and humanitarian Noella was born in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and educated in Belgium and Switzerland. Modeling brought Noella to New York where she was able to start the Georges Malaika Foundation (GMF) in honor of her late father Georges to provide educational opportunities for young Congolese girls.
The unconventional British model, actress, and singer currently taking the world by storm is Cara Delevingne. She sings and plays the drums. In 2013, she recorded an acoustic duet cover version of “Sonnentanz” with British soul and jazz singer/songwriter Will Heard and currently has a few film projects in the works. She’s also a mental health advocate and has spoken candidly about her personal experience with depression.
In 2008 the Ethiopian-born model launched the clothing line Lemlem, which means “to bloom” in Amharic. The brand features hand-spun, woven and embroidered women and children’s clothing. Since 2005 she has served as the WHO’s Ambassador for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health and founded the Liya Kebede Foundation, whose mission is to reduce maternal, newborn and child mortality in Ethiopia and around the world.
This Australian beauty effortlessly charms us with her “girl next door” appeal. She credits daily meditation and yoga for carrying herself with an “attitude of gratitude.” This long-time Victoria Secret model is also an entrepreneur and a certified health coach with strong opinions on the use of organic products.
We are what we consume so if you’re gonna follow or look up to someone, make sure they’re about something. We definitely think these ladies are.
