As spring is all about renewal and rejuvenation, it’s a great time to do a detox!
You can use intestinal cleanse supplements or other commercial products or try a homemade cleanse like the “Master Cleanse” which Beyonce’s 20-pound weight loss helped to hype. And you can fast or do a juice-only diet as a way to reset your body. There are plenty of fairly safe options on the market if you want to simply clean out your digestive system and lose a few pounds.
In this post, however, we want to look beyond digestive detoxes. We are sharing 5 “cleanses” that can have a positive impact on your entire life. By cutting out something unhealthy like sugar or alcohol or pressing pause on stress your entire being may feel lighter.
Go ahead, pick one of these detoxes to help you get more of something specific you need, like more sleep, or do them all to detox your entire life.
1. Sleep More
When we sleep, our brain recharges and acts to get rid of toxins from the day. So, for at least a week to 10 days, go to bed without an alarm and let your body clock some extra zzzzs. Don’t be surprised if you feel like you were on vacation afterward!
If you have trouble falling asleep, have some calming chamomile tea. That will also help you get a head start on this next way to detox!
2. Do a Salt Water Flush
Water helps transport waste products through our bodies and helps us digest and absorb nutrients. In general, drinking extra water can improve constipation, get rid of some backed-up waste, and help you shed a few pounds. It’s also great for your liver health. Using a mixture of pink salt and water can do a bit more by cleaning your colon.
It’s important to use Himalayan salt or pink salt. This salt is less processed and has beneficial ingredients built-in.
3. Go Dry For a Month
Did you know that too much alcohol can be hard on your liver? You might feel amazing after that half bottle of wine, but your liver, not so much.
If you go dry, you can expect to sleep better, reduce bloating, and be more hydrated and energized. And since you’ll be saving up to 1,000 calories a week, you might drop a few pounds too!
If you find yourself struggling, try having some sparkling water with lemon and lime in a wine glass. It will refresh you and help get you past the temptation to have a drink! It also looks very fancy. Water high, anyone?
4. Cut out Sugar and Processed Foods
Cutting out junk food and sugar from your diet is always a good idea, and it’s also a simple and safe way to detox.
If you get a sugar craving, try using a natural sweetener such as Stevioside in moderation. Also, choose healthy alternatives for snacks like fruit and unsalted almonds.
5. Month-Long Exercise Bootcamp
If you have the energy and inclination for it, joining an exercise Bootcamp is another excellent way to detox! Exercise increases circulation and encourages blood flow which stimulates your liver and digestive system to work their detox magic!
You’re not only likely to shed a few pounds, but you’ll also feel happier from the endorphin high. Like the iconic Elle Woods once said in everyone’s favorite movie, Legally Blonde: Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don’t shoot their husbands; they just don’t.
